Prabhupada Bedside Recording

BY: MARK HOUSER

Apr 30, MOUNDSVILLE, W. VA (PGH. TRIBUNE) — A recording was made in India in 1977 at the bedside of Prabhupada, the founder of the modern Hare Krishna movement. One of Prabhupada's devotees whispers as the old swami, feeble from old age and diabetes, drinks a glass of milk.

A Hare Krishna splinter group calling itself the Bhaktivedanta Investigation Force has released the recording with a book, "Judge For Yourself," that claims Prabhupada's followers poisoned the swami. He died soon after the recording was made, and the authors offer the recording as proof of a murder conspiracy. They allege the whisperer says, "The poison is going down."

It sounds more like "The swelling is going down."

Judge for yourself, but be aware: The audio quality is poor and the volume is low. Headphones are best.
