SECTION SIXTY-SEVEN
Vaikuntha Is Eternal
Lord Brahma explains to Sri Narada about the eternality of Vaikuntha (2.5.39): "His neck is thought of as Janaloka, and His two nipples are meditated upon as Tapoloka. His head is considered Satyaloka, but Brahmaloka is eternal."
Sridhara Svami comments: Brahmaloka means the planet called Vaikuntha. That place is eternal. This means that it is not part of the created material world. This is the end of his comment.
The planet which has the nature of Brahman is Brahmaloka.
COMMENTARY
Everything in the material world is made of matter and is temporary. Since Vaikuntha is beyond the material world, it is eternal. In 5th chapter of second canto Lord Brahma explains the process of meditating on the various planets as the limbs of Lord's body. Lord Brahma tells Narada that the universal egg is a form of the Lord and that everything up to Satyaloka, the topmost material planet, is temporary. Vaikuntha, however, is eternal. Lord Siva confirms this while speaking to Parvati (Padma Purana, Uttarakhanda 227.56,57,58):
"In this way, O daughter of Himalaya, I have explained the best opulence's of material nature. Now listen to the wonderful features of the supra-mundane region. Between the un-manifest material nature (pradhana) and the spiritual sky exists the Viraja River, the auspicious current of water generated from the perspiration of the Vedas personified. Beyond this is the spiritual sky, called tripada-vibhuti, which is eternal. It is supreme, immortal, unchanging, unlimited, and never diminishes. This divine abode of the Lord is unfathomable and in pure goodness."
