Mar 06, 2013 — KERALA (BUSINESS STANDARD) — A procession of a golden idol of Lord Krishna will be taken out from Mathura on March 13 to famous Guruvayur temple in Kerala as part of an annual grant festival. It will traverse through holy places like Vrindavan, Govardhan Giri and major temples in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

The procession is expected to reach Guruvayur on March 29 where a nine-day Akhila Bharat Srimad Bhagavath Mahasatram festival has been organised. The idol will be worshipped at the venue of the 30th annual event.

Simultaneously, Krishna processions from 500 temples from Kerala including famous Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram will also converge at Guruvayur on that day.

During the nine days of Bhagavat Satram, nearly 70 scholars will conduct discourses on various subjects in the Holy Book of Srimad Bhagavat.

Guruvayur is also known as "Dwarka of south India".
