ISKCON Seattle is ISKCON, No More

BY: SUN STAFF

May 12, 2012 — CANADA (SUN) — Following is a promotional events flier recently distributed by what used to be the ISKCON Seattle temple. Now going by the name "Vedic Cultural Center", under the direction of ISKCON GBC, Harivilasa dasa, it no longer resembles Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON in the least.

Srila Prabhupada would undoubtedly be appalled to see what's become of his ISKCON Seattle yatra. When it's not ATM machines on the altar for Durga Puja, or dog-and-pony shows featuring Radhanath, Indradyumna or Bhakti Caru Swamis (or their servants), it's a buffet of Hindu culture that has absolutely no connection to Krsna Consciousness.

Even the name has changed... note in the ad's masthead: "Vedic Cultural Center - a project of THE HARE KRISHNA MOVEMENT (TM) Organization." Hari Vilasa & company apparently haven't heard the news that years ago, the West Coast Rtviks adopted the name, 'The Hare Krishna Movement'.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse…

Vedic Cultural Center of Sammamish is honored to host TTD's seven senior priests who will perform Sri Srinivasa Kalyanam (The marriage of Lord Balaji with Smt. Padmavathi and Smt. Budhevi).

The venue will be "Metropolitan Hall, 16420 SE 128th st Renton, WA 98059"

The priests will begin "Suprabatha Seva" at 8o clock by waking up the deities and offering the same rituals and prayers as they do everyday in Tirupathi. Then, they will be performing "Thomala Seva" or dressing of deities and garlanding them with Tulasi and flowers. They will chant "Purusha Sūktam" and "Tiruppavi" during this time. Later, after a break, there will be the marriage ceremony "Sri Srinivasa Kalyanam", then maha aarti and archana for all the registered participants.

Seattle residents will be blessed by witnessing this most auspicious ceremony. The Vedic pandits, TTD archakas, will perform the "Sri Srinivasa Kalyanam" for the Utsava Murtis from Tirupathi.

This exclusive ceremonial experience will consist of all the traditional sevas that are offered to Balaji in Tirumala. Whoever attends will be most fortunate to witness in such an intimate context the full ceremonial pomp, which is rarely seen even by the masses of Tirupathi piligrims. Do not miss this rare and exceptional spiritual experience.
