"My long desired scheme of a Krsna Conscious daily newspaper is being implemented. Please do this work very nicely. It will be a very great step in the history of ISKCON movement."
~ Srila Prabhupada, Letter to Satsvarupa 1971

"Here in this world there are thousands of newspapers and magazines reporting the stale, repetitious happenings of this limited space. So for reporting the news of the unlimited spiritual realm, concerning the eternal, ever-fresh Supreme Personality of Godhead, we could publish a newspaper at every second, what to speak of daily."
~ Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura

"According to social conventions, it is said that one can speak the truth only when it is palatable to others. But that is not truthfulness. The truth should be spoken in such a straight and forward way, so that others will understand actually what the facts are. If a man is a thief and if people are warned that he is a thief that is truth. Although sometimes the truth is unpalatable, one should not refrain from speaking it. Truthfulness demands that the facts be presented as they are for the benefit of others. That is the definition of truth."
~ Bhagavad-Gita As It Is. Ch 10:4

"May cows stay in front of me; may cows stay behind me; may cows stay on both sides of me. May I always reside in the midst of cows."

Sri Chaitanya Bhagavat, Part 70

BY: SUN STAFF

May 17, CANADA (SUN) — By Sri Vrindaban Das Thakur – Antya lila, Chapter One, Part One.

I worship the two brothers Lord Chaitanya and Lord Nityananda. They are the most magnanimous Supreme Lords, transcendentally situated and embodying inconceivable spiritual potency. These two Supreme controllers have now appeared on this earth in Their eternal forms.

O Lord, I offer my repeated obeisances at Your lotus feet. You are the Supreme Absolute Truth, omniscient of the past, present and future. You have now appeared as the son of Sri Jagannatha Misra. I also offer my fallen obeisances at the feet of all Your devotee servitors, who are Your sons (goswamis in the renounced order of life or the congregational chanting of the holy name which You fathered and propagate), Your consorts (according to apparent analysis, Visnupriya, who is the Bhudevi potency, Laksmipriya who is the Sridevi potency and Nabadwip Dham, which is lila or nila or durga potency - according to the consideration of mellow - these spiritual potencies are represented by Gadadhara, Narahari, Ramananda, Jagadananda and so on.

Guru-parampara:
The List of 32, Part 16

BY: ROCANA DASA

May 17, CANADA (SUN) — Significance of the List of 32 Members of the guru-parampara

What can be concluded by studying all these technicalities related to the List of 32? While matters of nomenclature seem pale in comparison to the transcendental pastimes of these personalities, there is obviously enormous significance in this list of topmost Acaryas in our disciplic succession. Everything about them, including how they are described in parampara lists, is of the upmost importance.

In the case of Brahmanya and Purusottama we are faced with seeming inconsistencies, but we rely on the word of the most recent Sampradaya Acarya, appreciating that he has followed – without change – his own Spiritual Master. This is the essence of disciplic succession. We do not skip back over the current Sampradaya Acarya, taking instead our interpreted opinion of a previous Acarya. If there is any question, the most recent Sampradaya Acarya stands as the definitive, inarguable source of Absolute Truth, whether the subject matter is particulars of the disciplic succession, or some aspect of Sri Krsna's transcendental Name or Form.

May 15, CANADA (SUN) — By Sri Vrindaban Das Thakur – Madhya lila, Chapter Seventeen.

All glory to Lord Visvambhar, the son of Mother Saci, bold as a lion our Lord is the deliverer of the fallen souls.

All the devotees very much perturbed and grief stricken, they were already feeling the pangs of separation from their beloved Lord Chaitanya, they cried piteously. They said amongst themselves, "where will He go after taking sannyasa? Where will we see Him again? Surely, He is not going to return to this village after accepting a mendicant's robe, there is no way of finding out where He will be and which direction He will travel in." The devotees were constantly worrying in this manner, Their hearts filled with consternation that they may never see their most precious Lord again, no one took interest in food and sleep any longer.

May 15, CANADA (SUN) — Sita Devi's Appearance day is observed on May 16th.

Today, in honor of Sita Devi's Appearance, we will revist a previously discussed Indian Miniature depicting an episode from the Ramayana -- the Birth of Sita devi. Sita devi, who is an incarnation of Laksmi, was not born of woman but of the Earth Goddess, Bhumi devi herself. In Maharishi Valmiki's own words, Ramayana is known as the noble story of Sita -- "Sita-ayah Charitam Mahat".

May 13, CANADA (SUN) — By Sri Vrindaban Das Thakur – Madhya lila, Chapter Sixteen, Part Two.

One day the Supreme Lord Chaitanya was immersed in the pastimes of the gopis of Vrndavan. He was incessantly chanting, "gopi, gopi,". Along came a student scholar from somewhere and without understanding His mood said to Him, "O Nimai Pandit why are You chanting gopi! gopi!. You should better chant Krishna's name. What pious gain is there in chanting 'gopi! gopi!' But according to the Vedas one's piety increases manyfolds by chanting Krishna's name!" An ignorant man can never comprehend the Lord's spiritual state. The Lord said, "Krishna! He is a plunderer! Who worships Him? That ungrateful Krishna killed the innocent Bali and although His winsome looks and strength has won many women He deliberately cuts off a woman's nose. Again, He begs everything from Bali Maharaj leaving him with nothing and then sends him down to help. What will I gain chanting His name?"

May 13, CANADA (SUN) — Recognition of Srila Prabhupada as the Current Sampradaya Acarya

Not all gurus in our Sampradaya who read the list of 32 Sampradaya Acaryas in the guru-parampara are moved to perfunctorily add their own name to the list. A survey of ISKCON diksa gurus and temple websites over the years has shown that some have added a thirty-third name to the list after Srila Prabhupada, while others have not.

For example, HH Giriraj Swami has gotten the realization that Srila Prabhupada is, in fact, a Sampradaya Acarya, thirty-second in the line, and the most current member of the List of 32. On his Facebook page dated August 23, 2009 [16], Giriraj Swami presented the List of 32 in our disciplic succession. The list he uses is taken verbatim from Srila Prabhupada's Bhagavad-gita As It Is, with no changes. He introduced the List of 32 in this way (emphasis added):

Srila Sridhar's list is nearly identical to the List of 32 in Srila Prabhupada's Bhagavad-gita As It Is. The only exceptions are that he has used slightly expanded versions of a few names, e.g., "Bhagavan Sri Krsna" rather than "Krsna", and "Jagannatha dasa Babaji" rather than "Jagannatha".

Any discussion of bringing the guru-parampara list forward from Lord Chaitanya has to include mention of a debate that has been quietly raging on for decades about Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur's personal connection to the parampara and his preaching on bhagavat-parampara. Voices on all sides have been spinning this debate in their own convenient direction, whether it be devotees in the Lalita Prasad line, the Vrindavan Anti-party (Jiva Institute), or the Rtvik-vadis who are now trying to argue that bhagavat-parampara authorizes the practice of bhagavati-diksa. In fact, quite a number of Rtviks today are starting to focus in this direction, hoping that bhagavati-diksa will fill the gap left by technical defeats that have decimated their Final Order siddhanta.
