A Poem by Madhavadasa das

vancha-kalpatarubhyas ca
krpa-sindhubhya eva ca
patitanam pavanebhyo
vaisnavebhyo namo namah

Though I’m fallen in the nescience of material desires,
Let me offer you the dream for which my fallen heart aspires...
Though I’m certainly unworthy, tendering sublime advice
The most wretched are made purer speaking words free of all vice.

Kindly play the cartels softly, let them ring instead of clang;
Let mridangas’ sounds redounding never drown the Holy Names.
Listen to the leader’s melodies and closely echo them;
Let the leaders also listen to what followers can sing.
If the leader’s blissful chanting of the Names is amplified,
Amplify, as well, responders, lest those distant be denied.

When all ears and hearts are focused on such lovely Sankirtan
All the world will stop and listen, and our movement will move on;
Everyone will love such chanting, and soon everyone will say
“Hare Krishna Hare Krishna!” Madhur! Madhur! Madhur bhaje!
