Sofia Revels in Birthday of Lord Krishna

June 30, SOFIA, BULGARIA (SNA) — Followers of the Krishna movement in Bulgaria marched along one of capital Sofia's main boulevards to celebrate a major religious holiday - the birthday of Lord Krishna.

Hindu devotees observe fast for the whole day and night, worshipping him and keeping vigil through the night while listening to his tales and exploits, recite hymns from Gita, sing devotional songs and chant mantras.

The picturesque Krishna procession grabbed the attention of passer-bys with melodic mantra-chants and the sound of various musical instruments.

Krishna has come up to be one of world's most popular religious organizations, also joined by thousands of westerners.
