May 06, BANGALORE, INDIA (SUN) — Announcement from ISKCON Bangalore, and the following, from a related article in 'Financial Chronicle' by Michael Gonsalves, Pune:

Big Animation, part of Reliance Big Entertainment, has sold Indian satellite TV rights for Little Krishna, a 13-episode animation film series to Nick, one of India’s leading children’s channels, for an undisclosed sum. The series is expected to debut on the channel from May 11 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

“We have sold the rights to screen Little Krishna to Nick,” Ashish S K, chief executive officer, Big Animation, said. “This is our first Indian animation show acquisition over the past two years. Through naughtiness, heroic acts and action-packed situations, the series has the potential to engage kids not only through world class animation, but also a compelling narrative”, Nina Elavia Jaipuria, senior vice-president and general manager, Nick India, said.

According to the latest Ficci-KPMG Media & Entertainment Industry Report, with the increase in the number of children’s channels, animation content demand in the domestic market is expected to grow. However, the report does not mention a precise value of animation content required for these channels alone.

The Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, which produced the series with an investment of Rs 50 crore, is also talking to global distributors and networks to sell the licensing & merchandising and gaming and DVD rights for overseas markets. Big Animation hopes that telecasters from the US, Europe, South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan will be interested in regional/country-specific satellite rights of the animation series for their home markets.

The series is a co-creation between Big Animation and the Indian Heritage Foundation promoted by Iskcon, Bangalore. The production took seven years of research from the chronicles of Lord Krishna -- the greatest legendary ‘prank-star’ from Indian heritage, said the company.

“Every episode in the series is a stand-alone story. Little Krishna has a huge fan following not only in India but internationally”, Ashish said, adding that the series involved over 300 characters, shot in 300 locations in India. Five times Emmy award winner Jeffery Scott of Ninja Turtles and Dragon Tales fame has written the script for the series.
