South African Devotee Murdered

BY: IRENE KUPPAN

Mar 27, CHATSWORTH, SOUTH AFRICA (IOL) — Police suspect the Hare Krishna devotee who was shot and killed last week may have died elsewhere and then been dumped in Chatsworth. On Wednesday, family and friends laid 38-year-old Sheritha Debipursad to rest. She had been shot in the back of the head hours after she arrived in Durban.

The Gauteng resident had come to visit family, attend the festival of chariots and a friend's wedding. However, she went missing on Thursday.

The Government Printing Works employee was found later that day at the Silverglen Nature Reserve with a bullet wound to her head. The last anyone heard from her was at 5pm on Thursday.

It was only after police inquired at the local Hare Krishna Temple, after finding religious beads around her neck, that her family was contacted on Sunday.

Anyone with information should contact Det Insp Vinesh Rajpersad at 083 787 6403.
