Holi, the Festival of Colors

Mar 15, SPANISH FORK, UTAH (SUN) Stage Schedule for Holi Festival at Spanish Fork Krishna Temple.
What follows is the schedule of events for the Festival of Colors/Holi March 24 at the Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, Utah.
4:00 pm: Power Point Presentation on the Big Screen in temple room. “Significance and History of the Holi Festival.” Participants learn of the legends behind the lighting of the bonfire, the burning of an effigy of the demoness Holika on the fire, and the throwing of the colors.
4:30 pm: On the outdoor stage(Covered area for audience) devotional songs are sung using traditional instruments like the harmonium, mrdanga drum and ghatam (hand cymbals).
5:00 pm: Jai Krishna and Caru das perform the drama, “Transformation of Valmiki” in honor of the Appearance Day of Shree Rama, which occurrs the following day.
5:15 pm: Nalini Lander* from Seattle, performs classical Indian Kathak dance selections
5:30 pm: Comedy skit entitled, “The Scholar and the Boatman.”
5:45 pm: Part Two of Nalini’s perfomance after a costume change.
6;00 pm: Lighting of the bonfire. Burning of the effigy of Holika. No matter the weather, lots of warmth and heat is supplied by the huge bonfire. Band starts to play. Band members are Jai Krishna, vocals: Curt Gordon, lead guitar: Joel Bradford, harmonica: Zach Perry and RB, drums, Joe Allen, bass guitar.
These are the signals for festival goers to smear each other with colors (bags supplied by the temple, $ 1.00 donation) of red, purple, blue, yellow, green, etc. The colors are dry and non stain, still, it is advised not to wear Sunday best clothes. Those who would rather not play the colors, are invited to watch from the safety of the temple’s upper verandah. The festival presents great opportunities for photography and video.
From beginning to end, hot multi course vegetarian meals will be served downstairs in the temple for $ 6.00 including drink.

Champion of Russia on Bellydance in 2003. The numerous Prize winner in International competitions in Moscow 2003-2004 years. Nominated as The best soloist performer -2004-in Russia. Since 16 Natalya Landar has worked on professional stage with Bollywood dance.
Studied at Nizhyn College of culture at Choreographic department. After exceptional graduation she came to her hometown Mogyliv-Podilskiy and 3 years worked with dance group “Dnister cluster”. The group took part in regional competitions on dance, participated in festivals, city and regional holidays. About 10 years Natalya (since this time she was named as Nalini, which means one of the names of lotus-flower) lived and worked in Moscow, Russia, traveling on the countries, studying the Arabian belly dance and participating in festivals and competitions, and also seriously studying the Indian dance Kathak at embassy of India in Moscow. Today some of her students back in Ukraine were graduated from Dance colleges and have their own dance schools, one of them, Natalya Antipova, today is famous Russian bellydancer and Champion of Russia of bellydance- 2005.
