Jan 21, BANGALORE (DECCAN HERALD) Peace and truth can be given a chance by letting children learn their meaning. This was the aim of the ‘Gita Fest’ organised by Iskcon from January 16 to 19. The fest was held exclusively for school children from Kindergarten to Class X.
The cultural event, based on the theme of the Bhagavad Gita, sought to stimulate appreciation and understanding of India’s rich and vast cultural diversity among the youth. Children got an opportunity to participate in events revolving around the ancient text.
The activities, including singing, painting and writing, brought out the hidden talent among children. Participants enjoyed being tested on their understanding of the Gita in the two contests - memorising and elocution. The Gita painting and poster collage events tapped into the creative instinct of the children.
“I never knew that the Bhagavad Gita explained so many truths about the meaning of life, until I started preparing for the Gita Fest”, said Guruprasad, one of the senior participants. Parents and teachers whole-heartedly appreciated the efforts of Iskcon. A special Gita Quiz is also being organised from the January 20 - 29 as part of the fest. The quiz has both oral and written segments. The prize distribution function will be held on February 5.
According to Shubhanga Chaitanya Das, the chief co-ordinator of Gita Fest, over 7,000 entries were received from 300 schools all over Bangalore. The fest provided not only an opportunity for budding school children to exhibit their talent, it was also one which helped them to realise the value of truth, peace and knowledge in this fast-paced world, he added.
