Corporate ISKCON - Part 33

Today we commence a new phase of mapping, beginning in Arizona. This state has had an interesting history with respect to ISKCON centers and related projects. Included in today's map is the Chaitanya Cultural Center of Tucson, AZ, which in March 2006 changed its name from Iskcon of Arizona, Inc. Among the directors are Charles and Sharon Cooksey (Dasarath dasa and wife Sandamini devi dasi). Dasarath dasa is also a director of the Sedona Center of Vedic Culture, Inc.
The Bhaktivedanta Cultural Center, Iskcon of Phoenix, Inc. has two notable directors, both GBC's -- Hari Vilasa dasa (Harry Terhanian) and Tamohara dasa (Thomas Pourchot). Along with Hari Vilasa dasa's arrival in Phoenix came the usual wave of angst. (See recent articles by Dasarath dasa in the Sun's Editorials section.)
While Hari Vilasa had been the GBC of three ISKCON temples in the Pacific Northwest for some time, he has apparently stepped down from his duties at the ISKCON Vancouver temple. A few years ago, there were rumors that he might be sanctioned by the GBC for his critical remarks about their handling of a gurukula abuse case (see Harivilasa 'Names Names'), but the GBC's faith in him has apparently been restored, no doubt due to his great success in turning several of Srila Prabhupada's Vaisnava temples into Hindu cultural centers.
