May 02, 2010 — CANADA (SUN) — A systematic review of ISKCON-related corporations and projects. Today we continue following a thread from Friends of The Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies, Inc., through its director, Sharmila Ford. The nodes that unfold give us an interesting picture, this time of a 'keystone' devotee who is connected to many other corporate entities and individuals, all of which appear to be non-devotees or unrelated to ISKCON.
The keystone personality in today's cluster map, Dr. Sharmila Bhattacharya Ford, is the wife of Alfred B. Ford (Ambarish dasa). The Fords have two daughters, Amrita and Anisha. Dr. Sharmila Ford is a member of the Board of Governors of the Oxford Center for Hindu Studies, and a member of the Vrinda Trust and Bhaktivedanta Cultural Center at Devasadana Mandir, ISKCON Detroit. Dr. Ford is joined on the board of Fairhaven Neighborhood Association, Inc. by two notable personalities, Shelley Meyer and Robert R. Rowe. Shelley Meyer is the wife of Urban Meyer III, head coach of the Florida Gators football team. Mr. And Mrs. Meyer are also directors of the Urban and Shelley Meyer Family Foundation, Inc. Robert R. Rowe is very active in the real estate industry in Alachua, Gainesville, and elsewhere. As will be evident in future segments of this series, there is a great deal of crossover between members of the devotee community and the Florida real estate industry, particularly in the area around Alachua. Obviously, because of the high concentration of devotees there, many individuals and corporations are taking advantage of the real estate opportunities. It will be interesting in future to learn how profits from this industry niche are finding their way back into preaching projects, or not. In addition to the three corporations detailed in this report, the cluster map shows an additional seven corporate entities connected through Robert Rowe. Because we have found no instances of connection to ISKCON among these companies and their directors, we will not detail them in this report in the usual way. They merit mention, however, because they are connected by a degree of separation to an extremely high profile member of the devotee community, Dr. Ford. The company and director names for the seven non-ISKCON-related corporations are mentioned briefly just to keep them searchable in the master archive. If any direct connections to the ISKCON community become known in future, we'll backtrack and detail them out accordingly. [Bold – 'keystone' entities; Italics – non-active corporations]
