Dear Citralekha devi dasi, Please accept my obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Bhakta Prabhu forwarded to me, at your request (he said) a text of yours detailing many faults of mine and explaining that I caused disappointment and pain to you and others. I'm not sure I recall where and when we met so it is difficult for me to apologize specifically for any pain I caused you. Therefore, I am asking in a general way if you would be willing to help me be a better devotee, a better woman, and a better person all around.

If you are willing, kindly share with me what you feel I could do to improve in my service and my preaching. I hope this meets you in good health and blissful Krishna consciousness. Your servant, Urmila devi dasi

Dear Urmila Mataji,

Please accept my obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Thank you for your letter. Please excuse me for being so late in replying to you. I have many duties and am not always able to answer letters in a timely manner. Though I didn't mention your name in that text "You Men are Such Simple Creatures". Nor did I tell to Bhaktadasa Prabhu that you were the person still you were able to clearly recognize my description of you.

In that letter I already said what the root of the problem is.

We are spiritual souls, and in that sense we are equal with all souls. But we are in women's body, so we are not equal with men. Our duties are completely different from men's duties. Our body is designed for making babies, taking care of our family, and we may expand that to taking care of our young girls who join, and nurture their Krsna consciousness. If you, as a woman, start to act like a man, speak like a man, and preach like a man, to the men, about duties for men, then you are doing someone else's duty. It looks that you want to be a man. It is not designed for women to act like men. Such women are going against their nature; they harm young women in their spiritual life. I explained that in my letter to Ajamila Prabhu, from my own experience and from the experience of girls who lived and served with me in a temple for many years. If your read again that letter, you may understand what we are trying to say. We need women preachers, but those who know what women need. And sastra speaks about what we need, and what our duites are. That is preaching and making other people Krsna conscious.

A real qualified spiritual woman, vaisnavi is the one who follows her prescribed duties in her prescribed asrama- that means grihastha asrama. She follows stri-dharma in all stages of her life. Not that she runs on the banks of Yamuna to embrace Krsna. It is sahajyism. It makes me sick. Or when I attend some mataji meetings from MIHE and VIHE, it is so sick—all false egos in one place trying to prove to each other how we women are most intelligent, better than most of men in our society, and we are this we are that… where is the humility? So sick. I do not understand how those women are not ashamed of themselves to exhibit so much pride related to their bodily conditioning. Such tiny brains, and so much pride.

Women who preach that stri dharma is not for Stri (women) are ignorant and do not understand basic injunctions from dharma-sastra. They are definitely the proof of sastric statement that women are less intelligent.

Those matajis who don't understand this fact about stri-dharma are very unfortunate and dishonest. It means that such women actually advance very slowly or not at all, in spite of being devotees for many decades. Due to some piety they get big name and fame, popularity, but not sukha, inner happiness, neither spiritual understanding. Thus they are not qualified to be anyone's advisor or what to speak a spiritual leader.

I was offered a very high position by men in our movement years ago, on several occasions, but I refused. Because it is so unnatural for a woman to sit with men of spiritual orders of life (we are not karmis, we do not follow mleccha society, but vedic society !)so it is very unnatural for a woman to sit and talk and spent hours, days, and months associating in this way with men. It is just not proper. Only shameless and very lusty women (not necessarily lusty on gross level, but subtle) can accept such "services" in our movement.

Personally I think that you would not agree with me, neither that you would try to understand or change your mind-frame after reading this. It requires a very good intelligence to understand this, plus faith in sastra and word of Krsna, and some people do not have good intelligence in their natal astrological charts. So when they do not listen to good advice, they would eventually fall down. But worse is when they drag young innocent girls with them.

In the case of you women who want to become diksa gurus and have followers, have GBC meetings, travel around independently, then you can have your own movement, only for women who are like you, no men inside, your own asrams, gurus, and philosophy. Because it was not Srila Prabhupada's idea that men and women are mixing with each other, neither on altar, kitchen, GBC rooms, etc. So if you have such desires to come on the top, shoulder to shoulder with men, then at least you separate from this ISKCON and have your own preaching and your own philosophy. Because what you preach now, is not what Srila Prabhupada wanted from us women, his disciples, and grand-disciples.

All the best mataji,

Your servant,
Citralekha devi dasi
