Rejecting Institutional Sexism

BY: BHAKTIN EVA

Nov 11, USA (SUN) — Dear devotees, I woke up today crying, having received a phone call from a concerned mataji last night. I had stumbled onto IskconJivaBlogspot.com, and what I saw there caused me to become utterly sick. It is a discussion about women in ISKCON, and how we're all rotten, as the author himself states.

How many classes have I been forced to sit through where women are criticized and spoken ill of? My self-esteem just cannot tolerate it anymore. I have decided to publicly leave ISKCON in protest of this.

It seems that the leaders of our movement encourage this kind of sexist thinking, and I refuse to be a part of it anymore. With tears in my eyes, I am leaving behind the ISKCON that I once loved so much. How is it so that these people can continue to follow such primitive and Neanderthal thinking? There is so much sexism in ISKCON that I am nauseated. I refuse to be in an institution that promotes such sexism, and I am publicly leaving ISKCON in protest.

Ladies (and men), if you feel the same way, you should also follow me in protest by leaving ISKCON. This is the only action left for us to take.

your humble servant,

Bhaktin Eva
