Noble Qualities
BY: HRISHIKESH DASA
Sep 12, CANADA (SUN) Rocana prabhu, your article, "Appreciating Christianity" is very nicely written, thoughtful and balanced. The latter quality is especially appreciated by me. Krishna has blessed you with (and you have worked diligently to develop) a perceptive mind, ability to express yourself, and determination to share. Not to mention great faithfulness to Srila Prabhupada, which I believe is the greatest quality.
Somehow, by karma and my own personal choices, I have been employed as a professional organist and music director for various Catholic and Protestant churches for the last 15 years since I moved out of a rural devotee community. During this time I have come to admire the many noble qualities of the Christian people I serve, and have become friends with some of them.
I find it curious that I have rarely found in these people the superiority complex and rampant lack of respect for others, such as dishonesty, using and abusing others to further one's own personal agenda (it's only for serving Krishna, prabhu!), which I observed when I lived in devotee communities. I hear sometimes from my friends who still live in devotee communities that not much has changed in this regard.
I do not wish to generalize, as I know also from personal experience that there are many very loving people with great honesty and integrity who live in devotee communities, many of whom I am honored to consider my friends. I am only sharing my personal experience in this matter of comparison for whatever it might be worth.
Sincerely your unworthy servant,
Hrishikesh dasa
