Further Comments on Aindra Prabhu

BY: SUN STAFF

Aug 22, 2010 — CANADA (SUN) — We have gotten quite a number of emails in reply to the various articles recently published on Aindra prabhu. Please note that the offering given by Aindra Prabhu, which has been posted here in audio and text, was given on Srila Prabhupada's Disappearance Day, not Appearance Day, as we were earlier informed.

A two-part video of Aindra's controversial 2009 Disappearance Day offering has now been made available by Luca Radhakund@Facebook, who writes:

"I was there and recording different speakers. Now Aindra prabhu left so I decided to share as historical video."

Regarding Rocana prabhu's recent article, "The Circumstances of Aindra's Departure", we are told that the article has generated some interesting responses in Vrindaban, amongst both the resident devotees and the temple authorities.

Some devotees wish that more attention had been placed on details about the pressure ISKCON leaders exerted on Aindra, rather than on the details of the accident that caused his death. We are continuing to research the situation, and will no doubt write a more indepth article on these circumstances in the future. Particularly with respect to the philosophical differences Aindra had with the ISKCON GBC and leaders, and various philosophical issues that he had taken a personal position on, we will hold our comments until the release of his much-awaited book in order to minimize any speculation.

Regarding the issue of Aindra prabhu's room at the temple, there seems to be some disagreement about whether or not his room had been a recording studio prior to Aindra moving in – some say yes, others say no. Either way, Aindra himself clearly worked on soundproofing the room for his own recording work. But in the context of the comments made in Rocana dasa's article, that fact is rather beside the point.

Whether Aindra made all the modifications on his room or some of the room's interior aspects preceded him, the point is that the Krishna Balarama Temple authorities have responsibility for all the rooms in the complex, and for the wellbeing of the Deities and devotees residing there. No one should be permitted to live in unsafe conditions, even if they want to, if there is a chance that others could suffer the consequences. This rule of thumb particularly holds true with respect to precautions taken against fire. And there is the overriding issue of properly safeguarding the assets of Srila Prabhupada's temple on behalf of Lord Krsna and Lord Balarama.

The Sun will certainly be interested to learn more in the future about the facilities at Krsna Balarama temple, including how they are funded and managed, what services are made available to the devotees and how equitably access is given to the facilities. We invite our readers to contribute whatever information they wish to our ongoing effort in that regard.
