Apr 10, 2011 — SRIDHAM MAYAPUR, WEST BENGAL (SUN) — The following letter is a comment that was censored by Dandavats.com editors. For background information please read the comment thread.

My comment is a response to Urmila dd's lecture in Mayapur, not about the content of the lecture but rather about her fitness to give the lecture in the first place. Apparently mine is not the only one that was censored. It seems that Dandavats is biased towards Urmila dd.

Your humble servant,

    All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

First I would like to thank Bhaktilata dd for her excellent comments which touched on several salient points.

I have been in Mayapur, and when I saw Urmila dd sitting on the vyasasan in front of so many senior sannyasis, grhastha and brahmacari men, I find it very distasteful. I was brought up in a Vaisnava brahmana family, and have been trained in Sri Krsna's Vedic culture since childhood.

You (Urmila dd), as a senior devotee should give an example of Stri-dharma. But it seems you do not live what you try to preach. Religion without philosophy is sentimentalism, and philosophy without religion is a mental speculation. So what is the religion (dharma) of a woman (Stri)? This you do not know. What do you preach then, when you do not know after so many years of your life the basics of proper Vaisnvava etiquette and culture? It seems you do not know how to apply Krsna Consciousness to your life as a soul trapped in a female body and instead speculate on how you should behave. Covering your head does not hide your aggressive, non-submissive speculative approach. I am very disappointed with your behavior.

You could just preach to women in Mayapur. Why you are so ambitious to conquer devotee men? They already have other qualified men to preach and guide them. They do not need a woman to guide them. Do you expect that they will jump in kirtana while you a woman are singing? It is so distasteful.

Rather than travelling all over showing what a big preacher she is, Srila Prabhupada advised his unmarried women this way:

"It is better that you don't make a large program. Remain a humble program. In bhakti there is no grotesque program. A humble program is better. We are doing all these grotesque programs to allure the masses. My Guru Maharaja used to say that no one hears from a person coming from a humble, simple life. You remain always very humble....Women when not with husband must live very very humbly and simple life." (Letter to Yamuna and Dinatarine, January 13, 1976, Calcutta)

I would suggest that you instead of trying to teach us, you yourself become a student and start learning basics of Krsna's Vedic culture from other women who are pati-vratas who follow Stri-dharma, and not a career woman like yourself. Otherwise, your behavior paints black the cultured ISKCON ladies.

    Hemamalini dasi
